"I AM NOT A CHOICE"
What media and why?
For this piece I chose to use acrylic paint, hot glue and paper. I chose to use arylic paint because I feel the most comfortable with acrylic paint. Since it can cover up any mistakes. I also chose hot glue because I have used it before on a previous project and I was happy with the outcome. Along with acrylic paint and hot glue, I also used paper. I used ripped paper to provide a rugged look.
What did I intend to communicate?
In this piece I wanted to convey the severity of a very prevalent issue in today's society. My goal was to show the real impact that abortion has on both mothe and baby, physically and emotionally.
How does the media help communicate the message?
The media that I used really helped to communicate my message. The media that I chose for this piece really helped to convey the deep, emotional, and dark look. The acrylic paint was excellent at making a bloody color. The texture from the hot glue gave the painting texture to make it look more realistic. And the ripped paper with the text on it gave the viewer a reality check.
Was it successful?
I think that my piece was very successful at getting the point across. Not only was it an image but it had facts and quotes from sources of all kinds to give it rhetoric. The emotional quotes floating in the amniotic fluid provide another view at abortion and really pull at the heart strings of the viewer.
"Life Changes"
What media and why?
For this piece I chose to use acrylic paint and wood. I chose to use acrylic paint because I needed a sold paint to cover up the wood and I chose the wood because I wanted to use a strange canvas to paint on.
What did I intend to communicate?
In this piece I was intending to communicate the idea of the changes of life and how two people can grow together.
How does the media help communicate the message?
The media that I chose, helps communicate the message because the wood gives the piece a rustic, aged look. And the rustic, aged look helps to eccentuate the idea of the progress over time.
Was it successful?
I think that this piece was successful. The silohettes provide an element of mystery but clearly show how two people went through life and the changes that occurred.
What units did I enjoy?
During Art II I really enjoyed the portrait unit. I learned a lot about how to accurately draw a face and its features. I also really enjoyed the free unit because I had a lot of time to truly explore the area I wanted to look more into and practice techniques. During the free unit I spent a lot of time in abrstact art and I found it very interesting.
How would I change Art II to make it better?
I think that Art II students should have more freedom to explore styles that they find intresting. I feel that would make the students more eager to find their style and what they like.
